Delivered by H.E. Mr. Andranik Hovhannisyan, Permanent representative

President,

Armenia appreciates that the disruption of Lachin corridor was brought to the fore by a number of delegates. Lachin Corridor is the only road that connects Nagorno-Karabakh to outside world. It continues to be blocked by Azerbaijan for the third month. The Freedom House warned that it is creating a humanitarian crisis. However, the situation can aggravate into a humanitarian catastrophe, since the essential goods, food and medicine dwindle. Meanwhile, Azerbaijan continues military provocations. Two days ago, its saboteur groups ambushed and killed three Armenian policemen inside the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Azerbaijan continues these grave violations and provocations in a sheer defiance to numerous international calls that urge to respect the human rights of Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh. In particular, Azerbaijan has failed to implement the Order of the International Court of Justice to ensure unimpeded movement along the Lachin Corridor. The UN Secretary General has stated in this regard that the Orders of the ICJ are binding and must be implemented.

A week ago, in this very Council the SG stressed that “public disregard and private disdain for human rights are a wake-up call”, “a moment to stand on the right side of history”, “to stand up for the human rights of everyone, everywhere.”

This is the high time to stand up for the human rights of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh.

I thank you.
