Delivered by Ms. Lilit Toutkhalian, Minister Extraordinary and Envoy Plenipotentiary

Mr. President,

Armenia thanks the Special Rapporteur for the report.

As a country with considerable migrant communities around the world and also the one that hosts migrants as well as refugees, Armenia has a first-hand knowledge and experience on the plight of displaced people and migrants, but also on the profound role they can play in the development of the host societies.

It gives us an immense pride to note that such reputable personalities as chansonnier Charles Aznavour, artist Arshil Gorky, tennis star Andre Aghasi and CEO of Moderna Nubar Afeyan, together with numerous other migrants of the Armenian origin, have vastly contributed to the host societies.

Domestically we have introduced the Increasing Migrants’ Potential to Act for the Development of Armenia project and expedited labor market entry with a digital platform. We are glad that these two examples were reflected in the SR’s report. In 2022, around 17 thousand foreigners received permits to stay in Armenia, which is four times higher than the same indicator of 2021. The number of people receiving permanent permits increased 2.5 times.

Amenia strives to ensure that migrants and their rights are protected.

Thank you.
