Delivered by Ms. Lilit Toutkhalian, Minister Extraordinary and Envoy Plenipotentiary

Mr. President,

Armenia thanks Special Rapporteur for the report.

Even though the it focuses primarily on the causes and consequences of prostitution, the scope of the report is much larger touching upon a wider scale of human rights protection.

We are particularly concerned with gender stereotyping and prejudices in judicial systems, which result in the denial of effective justice to sexually abused women and girls. In addition, some legal systems have not yet eradicated gender inequality and discrimination in legislation and policy.

To mitigate and ultimately to eliminate violence against women and girls in our society, Armenia undertook comprehensive revision of the legislation on domestic violence. In April 2024 the law on Prevention of Domestic Violence, Protection of Victims of Domestic Violence and Restoration of Family Solidarity was amended.
The amendments significantly extend the scope of violations covering inter alia the acts of economic, physical, sexual and psychological violence. The changes also ensure additional guarantees for protection, autonomy and independence of victims and survivors as well as addresses the vulnerabilities and needs of specific groups, such as children or persons with disabilities.

Armenia will continue its efforts both domestically and internationally.

Thank you.
