UN Special Procedures Mandate Holders published their communication to the Government of Azerbaijan

On January 27 the UN Special Procedures Mandate Holders (SPMH) published their communication to the Government of Azerbaijan. They expressed their grave concern and called on AZ to investigate unlawful killings of Armenian PoWs and civilians, the cases of torture, desecration of bodies, including women, committed by the armed forces of Azerbaijan on 13 September 2022. The SPMH stated that those could amount to war crimes. The SPMH noted that Azerbaijan did not provide information on the results of investigations on previous crimes committed in Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as factual and legal reasons for continued detention of the POWs after cessation of hostilities, and the measures taken to inform families of the disappeared about their fate and the exact whereabouts.
