President,

Armenia thanks the Special Rapporteur for presenting her report.

As noted in the report, international cooperation agreements on child protection are crucial to combat the sale and sexual exploitation of children. In this respect, we are glad to note that during the past two years Armenia ratified two important treaties: the Council of Europe Convention on Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse, also known as the “Lanzarote Convention”, and the Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on a communications procedure.

In  2021 Armenia adopted a new Criminal Code, where a number of new offenses to the protection of children were criminalized, particularly physical, psychological, and sexual violence against children, as well as the storage of pornographic material.

Finally, we agree with the Special Rapporteur’s recommendation that one of the tools that helps to combat sexual exploitation of children is the implementation of online safety education programs. In this regard, “Safer Internet Armenia”, which is a national project supported by the National Center of Educational Technologies of Armenia and the Yerevan City Municipality, hosted this year online classes in schools regarding internet safety.

I thank you.
