Ambassador Hasmik Tolmajian delivered a statement at the event on “Strengthening the Science-Policy Interface to Address the Triple Planetary Crises”

17 December, 2025

On December 17, Ambassador Hasmik Tolmajian, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the UN Office and other International Organisations in Geneva, delivered a statement at the event on “Strengthening the Science-Policy Interface to Address the Triple Planetary Crises” organized by the Geneva Environment Network and Switzerland.

In her speech, the Ambassador emphasized the key role of the science-policy nexus in overcoming the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, underscoring the importance of science-based decisions in ensuring coherent and effective international cooperation in addressing the crisis. The Ambassador also emphasized the importance of promoting synergy between various intergovernmental science-policy platforms, highly appreciating the role of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) in building a bridge between science and policy. The Ambassador emphasized that the IPBES findings will be of key importance at COP17 to be held next year in Armenia, for the 1st Global Review of collective progress in implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) with a view to assess the current state of implementation, identify the gaps and chart the most effective pathways for the achievement of the targets and objectives of the GBF by 2030 and 2050 respectively.

In conclusion, the Ambassador invited the participants to Armenia next October to jointly reaffirm that science remains at the heart of the collective efforts to halt biodiversity loss, address climate change and eliminate pollution, for the health of our planet and future generations.
