Delivered by Ms. Armine Petrosyan, Second Secretary

President,

Armenia welcomes distinguished Special Rapporteur and appreciates her report.

As child labour remains prevalent within the agriculture sector, we share the concern of the Special Rapporteur on the particular risks of child trafficking in humanitarian contexts caused by conflicts, forced displacement or natural disasters.

We took note of the recommendations on ensuring ratification and implementation of the relevant human rights and labour rights standards, as well respect for the principle of non-discrimination and equal protection of the law for all agricultural workers without exception.

Combating trafficking in persons is a key priority of the Government of Armenia, and we have registered tangible results, which have been materialized due to close collaboration among all the stakeholders. In the course of recent years Armenia initiated numerous reforms as well as actively cooperated with all the corresponding international actors.

The Council of Europe’s GRETA have recently published a new report on Armenia. It made a number of recommendations, while noting that “since the previous evaluation in 2017, Armenia has continued to develop its anti-trafficking legislative and policy framework.”

We would like to reiterate our commitment to continue our efforts both on national and international levels.

I thank you.
