Event in Geneva dedicated to 71st anniversary of the victory in Great Patriotic War

On May 14, an event dedicated to the 71st anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War was held in Geneva with the participation of the permanent representations of the CIS countries.

The event was launched with the speech of Ambassador Aleksey Borodavkin, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation, followed by Ambassador Yuri Ambrazevich, Permanent Representative of Belarus, and Mrs. Hasmik Tolmajyan, Envoy of the Republic of Armenia. Mrs Tolmajyan presented the essential input of the Armenian people in the common victory in the GPW. The Envoy of Armenia talked also about the important role of the Armenian Diaspora in the fight against fascism.

“This shall be our common duty to keep alive the memory of our heroes, to counteract the spread of ideology of hatred, animosity, extremist nationalism and xenophobia - phenomena, the barbaric demonstration of which had been witnessed by the Armenian people even before the Second World War, during the Genocide committed in 1915 in the Ottoman Empire,” remarked the representative of the Republic of Armenia.

Armenia was represented at the event by its national stand decorated with the posters illustrating the heroic participation of the Armenian people in the fight against fascism - namely with the photographs and informative leaflets about Marshalls Hovhannes Baghramian, Hamazasp Babajanian, Sergey Khudyakov (Armenak Khanferyants), Admiral Hovhannes Isakov, Nver Safaryan - Commander of the Tasmanian Division, and other Armenian heroes.
