Delivered by Ms. Nelli Petrosyan, Human Rights Officer

Mr. President,

We thank the Special Rapporteur for his insightful report focused on poverty eradication in a post-growth context.

We are convinced that increased investments in the provision of universal basic services contributes to the realization of human rights and the reduction of inequalities. In this regard, the Government of Armenia continues to implement various social assistance programmes, aiming at providing necessary assistance to persons who are in need of urgent aid, contributing to the increase of their quality of life.

For instance, within the scope of the "Emergency Social Aid" Programme, families in a difficult life situation are provided with in-kind assistance based on the needs assessed. Additionally, during the implementation of the "Food Cards for Food Insecure Families" Project in co-operation with the UN World Food Programme, the provision of services necessary for improving the food security of socially disadvantaged persons and the population affected by emergency situations is considered as a priority.

President,

Armenia strives to undertake policy measures to eliminate extreme poverty by 2026. We firmly believe that any transition to a post-growth development trajectory must prioritize the realization of human rights, with the utmost respect for human dignity.

I thank you.
