Delivered by Ms. Lilit Toutkhalian, Minister Extraordinary and Envoy Plenipotentiary

Mr. President,

Being fully cognizant of the adverse impact of climate change, Armenia is ready to shoulder its share of responsibility to mitigate the already visible negative impact of climate change on our planet. Toward that end, Armenia is committed by 2030 to double its share of renewables in energy generation on the path to achieve climate neutrality in the second half of this century.

Armenia ratified the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change as early as May 1993, the Kyoto Protocol in December 2002, and the Doha Amendment to the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement in February 2017. In May 2019, Armenia ratified the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, undertaking a commitment to phase down HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons). Armenia approved the Long-term Low Greenhouse Gas Emission Development Strategy (until 2050) on 28 December 2023.

Under the Paris Agreement Armenia approved Nationally Determined Contributions that propose a 40 percent emission reduction by 2030.

In January 2023, Armenia became the thirty-eighth country to sign the Intergovernmental Declaration on Children, Youth and Climate.

In its endeavor to overcome climate change Armenia continuously cooperates with our international partners.

Thank you.
