Delivered by Ms. Nelli Petrosyan, Human Rights Officer

President,

We thank the Special Rapporteur for her comprehensive report focused on the prevention of trafficking in persons in the context of migration at sea.

We share her conviction that human trafficking inherently threatens human dignity and the fundamental freedoms of its victims, making it fundamentally incompatible with a democratic society.

Combating trafficking in persons has always been a key priority for Armenia. Over the past several years, Armenia has initiated numerous reforms and actively cooperated with all the international actors in this field. In recent years, we have intensified our efforts on enhancing the anti-trafficking capacity, including measures to help identify victims within migration flows.

President,

We thank for the recommendations on taking necessary measures to assist and protect child victims of trafficking. In this context, the Government of Armenia adopted the 7th National Action Plan for Combating Trafficking and Exploitation of Human Beings for 2023-2025. The National Action Plan underscores the importance of institutionalizing cooperation between child care institutions, psychologists, social workers, and law enforcement agencies in cases of child trafficking or exploitation. It also includes legislative reforms, awareness-raising initiatives, data collection and improving conditions at educational institutions.

I thank you.
