President,

Armenia thanks the Working Group for the report.

According to the Global Gender Gap Report 2023, Armenia is a regional leader ranking 61st out of the 146 countries.

The Gender Policy Implementation Strategy of Armenia for 2024-2028 is in the process of being submitted for approval to the Government. The Strategy identifies six gender policy priorities in the areas of governance and decision-making, socio-economic and labor, education and science, health, gender-based violence, prevention of violence against women and girls, domestic violence, and climate.

The Strategy will focus also on socio-economic and phycological consequences of the conflict induced discrimination against women and girls. Armenia shelters 145.000 refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh, who were first doomed to 9 months long blockade and then ethnically cleansed from their ancestral homes last September. The gender-based violence committed by the armed forces of Azerbaijan was videotaped by the tormentors themselves and was disseminated on social media. Five UN Special Procedure mandate holders send a communication to Azerbaijan in this regard.

Finally, we agree with the recommendation of the Working Group on providing effective remedies and ensuring accountability for violations of women’s and girls’ rights in conflict situations.

Thank you.
