Delivered by Shogher Sahakyan, Attaché

President,

Armenia welcomes the High Commissioner and thanks for the report.

We agree that the climate crisis exacerbates existing poverty, inequality, and food security and in order to ensure the efficient realization of human rights, including rights to food, States should have responsibility to urgently integrate human rights into economic systems and socio-economic policies.

Climate change has a negative impact on ecosystem services that are particularly important for mountainous States, such as the Republic of Armenia. The loss and damage for the economy of the countries is evident given the reduction of soil productivity, pest outbreaks, harvest loss as a result of extreme weather, intensification of landslides, mudflows or flooding.

Under Paris Agreement Armenia approved Nationally Determined Contributions based on green economy, compatible with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), that are reflected in socio-economic development framework of the Republic of Armenia.

It is also worth mentioning that in January 2023, Armenia became the thirty-eighth country and the first in the South Caucasus region to sign the Intergovernmental Declaration on Children, Youth and Climate.

Armenia remains committed to continue the international cooperation to further integrate human rights into economic and climate policies.

I thank you.
