Delivered by Mrs. Anush Gharabaghtsyan, Attaché

President,

Armenia welcomes the Special Rapporteur and thanks for the report.

As technology advances at an unprecedented pace, it is more important than ever to ensure that strong laws are in place to protect people’s most basic rights to privacy and control over their personal information.

While Personal Data Law was adopted in Armenia in 2015, we continue our efforts in strengthening regulations to further address pertinent and newly emerging challenges, including in data transfers, children's data protection, and special categories of information.

Early and consistent privacy education will be key to building digital literacy as more aspects of modern life become digitized and data driven.

It is also vital to ensure that citizens understand their rights and know how to exercise them, as without this understanding the intent of the safeguards cannot be fully realized. To this end, we are exploring effective educational initiatives and approaches to boost digital literacy and data privacy education across Armenia.

With this in mind, Madam Special Rapporteur, we would appreciate to know what educational initiatives/approaches have been most effective at fostering digital privacy literacy rates?

I thank you.
