Theme: Harnessing multilateral efforts to embed, amplify and realize the rights of persons with disabilities with a focus on full and effective participation and inclusion in society

President,

Armenia thanks the distinguished panelists for the insightful discussion.

Armenia is strongly committed to promoting and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities, especially as the number of people with both physical and psychosocial disabilities has dramatically increased in our country since the 2020 war and the forced displacement of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians.

We truly agree that a community that is welcoming and accessible to every individual, regardless of ability, is a society that thrives and prospers.

We recognize that one of the major challenges in the implementation of the UNDIS (United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy) has been the lack of awareness and understanding of rights of persons with disabilities among various stakeholders, including governments, institutions and society at large. Thus, there is an urgent need for increased collaboration and coordination among governments, donors, civil society organizations, including those representing the rights of persons with disabilities, and international bodies to ensure a holistic approach to the rights of persons with disabilities, which includes the sharing best practices, resources and expertise.

Armenia therefore believes that it is crucial to prioritize the participation and inclusion of persons with disabilities in decision-making processes as active partners, especially when it relates to their rights, which can ensure that polices, programs and initiatives are inclusive, accessible and responsive to their needs.

 Thank you
