Delivered by Anna Sargsyan, Second Secretary

President,

Armenia welcomes the report of the Secretary-General and thanks for the timely analysis of the alarming situation and recommendations for effective remedies.

Climate change is no longer a distant threat, it is a present reality, and its consequences are increasingly devastating. Among others, climate change, including human-induced climate change, poses unprecedented challenges to global food security, exacerbating hunger, malnutrition, and inequality․

In tackling the challenges at the intersection of climate change and the right to food, it is crucial to adopt a human rights-based approach. Policies and interventions should be grounded in the principles of dignity, equality, and non-discrimination. It is our common obligation to protect, respect, and fulfill the right to food, ensuring that climate action measures prioritize the needs and rights of the most vulnerable.

Through concerted efforts, international cooperation, and a human rights-based approach, we can mitigate the impact of climate change on food security, protect vulnerable communities, and ensure a sustainable and equitable future for all.

We believe that in our joint efforts for a sustainable future, we must always remember that the preservation of human rights is intertwined with the preservation of our planet.

Thank you.
