Delivered by Ms. Tiruhi Galstyan, Human Rights Officer

President,

We thank the Special Rapporteur for her comprehensive report.

We share her concerns that conflicts and displacement pose higher risks of trafficking, especially for children and women. It is our strong conviction that states should implement effective asylum policy for admission and protection of victims of trafficking in accordance with international norms.

The National Action Plan has been focused on improving legislation and preventing trafficking and the exploitation of persons, particularly children. Armenia has established mechanisms to identify, protect and support individuals subjected to trafficking and to strengthen international cooperation. The government has implemented a program to provide social and psychological rehabilitation services for victims of human trafficking. In recent years, Armenia has redoubled the efforts to effectively combat trafficking in persons while assisting in the reintegration of victims into society. We increased efforts on enhancing the anti-trafficking capacity, including measures to help identify victims in migration flows and establishing standardized indicators for the Victim Identification Commission (VIC) to officially assess and identify victims.

Furthermore, Armenia has adopted prevention measures to raise awareness and educate the public about the risks of trafficking, in collaboration with civil society organizations.

I thank you.
