President,

Armenia aligns with the statement delivered by Belgium on behalf of the Group of Friends on Children and Armed Conflict.

We extend our appreciation to the Special Representative Virginia Gamba for her continued engagement with the Council.

Armenia is committed to working with the member states and the UN human right machinery to protect children from all forms of violence, and to ensure that their needs are met in humanitarian and conflict situations. More should be done to guarantee that there are no children left behind.

As a country that has been experiencing the devastating impact of purposeful wars by Azerbaijan, we know firsthand the trauma that children can endure during an armed conflict.

The current blockade of Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan has resulted in a dire humanitarian crisis. It continues now for the third month leaving thousands of children besieged in Nagorno-Karabakh without access to critical services such as healthcare, education, and food. The frequent disruptions of energy supplies doom children to freeze in severe winter conditions.

Azerbaijan should heal to the international calls coming in particular from the ICJ, UN SG, UNICEF to guarantee the freedom of movement through the Lachin Corridor.

I thank you.
