President,

Armenia warmly welcomes and thanks the Special Representative for the Report.

The digital environment has brought a great deal of positive change to our societies, but it has also created new challenges, particularly in the protection of children's rights. Both online and offline violations severely impact children’s physical, mental and emotional well-being.

It is the duty of the States and the International Community to take action to prevent and address violations of the rights of children both in the times of peace and war. In this regard, Armenia acknowledges the urgent need for enhanced international efforts to monitor and report, strengthen child protection laws and policies, and hold perpetrators accountable for wrongdoings.

Recently the digital privacy of 19 children traveling from Armenia to Nagorno-Karabakh has been infringed upon when a group of Azerbaijanis in masks stopped their bus, intimidated children, and took their videos without acquiring permission. They subsequently disseminated the footage on social networks without covering the faces of children.

The right to privacy of children in the digital age should be at the forefront of our efforts and such heinous incidents should be adequately addressed.

I thank you.
