Delivered by Mr. Henrik Yeritsyan, Second Secretary

Mr. President,

We thank the Working group for presenting its stocktaking report. It was useful to examine the impact of the pandemic on the human rights and business, as well as get some insightful recommendations to build back better.

We concur with the working group that COVID-19 and its socioeconomic consequences have been a real test of leadership and human rights compliant responses for Governments and businesses. To neutralize these consequences of the pandemic, Armenia adopted more than 25 social and economic assistance programs targeting the most vulnerable groups of the population and the hardest hit sectors of the economy. Moreover, in early stages of the crisis we initiated amendments to the Labour Code to prevent violations of workers' rights to the extent possible during and aftermath emergency situations.

President,

We also took careful note of the “roadmap for the next decade” which presents important recommendations towards gradual implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. We reaffirm our support for the Guiding Principles as a global framework to promote the effective prevention of business-related human rights violations and remedy for the victims.

 I thank you.
