Delivered by Mr. Henrik Yeritsyan, Third Secretary

President,

We thank the Special Rapporteur for the report.

We took note of her recommendation on adoption of all appropriate measures to ensure the effective implementation of the principle of non-punishment of victims of trafficking.

In this regard, we would like to stress that the relevant regulations on non-punishment of the victims of trafficking were improved within the New Criminal Code of Armenia which was adopted on May 5, 2021.

Last Year, the Government of Armenia adopted The National Action Plan and Implementation Timetable for Organizing the Fight against Trafficking in and Exploitation of Persons for 2020-2022. It was developed through a participatory process with consideration of suggestions and recommendations of all stakeholders, with full engagement of the civil society. Furthermore, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports funded an anti-trafficking website and hosted an annual award ceremony for journalists publishing trafficking stories.

It has been more than a decade that the Government of Armenia actively fights trafficking in persons. In the course of the past several years Armenia initiated numerous reforms, as well as actively cooperated with all the international actors active in this field.

The needs and interests of victims is in the centre of our response, whereas the restoration of their rights is the main goal.

I thank you.
