Delivered by Mrs. Zoya Stepanyan, First Secretary

Madam President,

Armenia thanks the Working Group for the presentation of its reports.

We are of the strong view that gender sensitive responses should be among the building blocks of all recovery efforts across all sectors to eradicate discrimination, violence and deeply rooted inequalities that had ugliest manifestations during the pandemic and undermined the modest and hard-won gains for millions of women and girls.

We are also cognizant that largely compromised health and protection systems deprived many women of basic sexual and reproductive health services, including family planning, emergency contraception and maternal health services.

Madam President,

In Armenia, the right to bodily integrity is enshrined in the Constitution. Legal framework also guarantees the right to freely manage sexual and reproductive life, decide independently on number and placement of children. Law also stipulates protection from all forms of sexual exploitation, forced pregnancies and abortions, forced sterilizations and other abuses of reproductive rights. Government policies also center at fight against maternal mortality and morbidity, provision of quality obstetric care.

Madam President,

Reliable sexual and reproductive health information, gender responsive infrastructure, access to water and sanitation, midwifery services in remote areas   are just several examples of unalienable human rights. The failure to safeguard those rights may become a point of no return for millions of women and adolescent girls.

I thank you.
