Armenian Diplomat Awarded with a High Level Medal of France

On November 16, Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations Office in Geneva hosted an official ceremony on the occasion of awarding Mrs. Hasmik Tolmajian, Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the Swiss Confederation, with the National Medal of Merit of the French Republic.

Permanent Representative of France, Ambassador Elisabeth Laurin welcomed the invitees and submitted the high award on behalf of the President of France. Mrs Laurin emphasized Mrs. Tolmajian’s input in strengthening the French-Armenian friendly relations, manifested both in Paris, during Mrs. Tolmajian’s assignment at the Embassy of Armenia, and in Yerevan, while working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Laurin also praised the activities of Mrs. Tolmajian at the United Nations Office in Geneva, stressing, in particular, the essential efforts aimed at the adoption by consensus of the Resolution on the Prevention of genocide presented by Armenia to the Human Rights Council.

Mrs. Tolmajian expressed her gratitude for receiving the high award and highlighted the importance of centuries-old Armenian-French friendship, of current privileged relations, as well as of the high-level political dialogue established at the level of highest authorities of Armenia and France.

The award ceremony was attended by the ambassadors accredited to Geneva, high officials of the UN and other international organizations, as well as the representatives of the Armenian community of Switzerland.
