Reception in Geneva on 25th Anniversary of Independence of Armenia

10 October, 2016

On October 10, H.E. Mr. Charles Aznavour, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the United Nations Office in Geneva, gave an official reception at the Beau-Rivage Hotel on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia.

President of the UN Human Rights Council, the representatives of the Swiss legislative and executive authorities, UN community, diplomatic missions accredited in Bern, heads of international organizations, as well as the representatives of the Swiss-Armenian community attended the reception.

Ambassador Aznavour mentioned in his speech that 25 years of Independence for Armenian people have been the years of not only challenges but also the years of achievements and victories. Of course, a quarter of century is a small period of time for the nation of three thousand-year-old history. However, these twenty five years of Armenian Independence have been crucial for our people in terms of strengthening of Armenian statehood as well as for reintegration of Armenia to the family of nations.

Ambassador expressed his gratitude to all friends of Armenian people, who accompanied Armenia on that path, having in mind, in particular, Switzerland and international community in Geneva. Mr. Aznavour suggested raising glasses to the Independence of Armenia, to the Armenian-Swiss friendship and to the peaceful and prosperous future.

During the reception a quartet composed of Armenian and Swiss musicians performed the national anthems of Armenia and Switzerland, as well as masterpieces by Komitas, Aram Khachaturyan and other Armenian composers.
